I was accompanying a group after ages, a bit of nervousness and edginess surrounded this trip as I was a last-minute replacement for my other Director and brother who was unable to travel. On the outset, a group of 55-60 persons is a cake-walk, considering we have handled 1700 persons in the past.
However, the nervousness crept in again just as I was boarding the flight, as this wasn’t just a Leisure Group, it was a small group of High-Achievers, getting felicitated for their exceptional performance in the past few months. I yet remember, when I first went in for the pitch , I was told – it has to be different, which all the winners will remember for a longtime to come. Dubai – a destination where most Indians have been atleast once in the recent past, what could we do that would make their Felicitation Night memorable ? What is it that one always first looks at when they think of Dubai ? It’s the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel that stands like a solid emerging sail in the off the ocean , a sight that’s majestic from the shores of Dubai. Thus was born, the night of the stars in Black, Red & Gold for an exceptional experience at the Burj al Arab.
I remember, the numerous emails that followed between the Burj Al Arab team and us that pored over the various food menus, the drinks menu, the seating , the décor. The team at the Burj was super ! I felt like SuperWoman 🙂
The experience to arrive at the Burj Al Arab is something, firstly you are asked by Security where you are going and after checking will they let you in. You drive across this long bridge that joins the mainland to the island that the hotel is located on. The car stops at the entrance, and the door is opened by a well-groomed attendant wearing a long tail coat and welcoming you with a smile. When you enter, its as if you have entered the Alladin’s Cave and as they say – all that glitters is Gold! The colourful fountains dancing in front of your eyes, whilst you gape at the exotic marine life in the aquarium as you glide on the escalators to reach the next level and enter the Gold guilded elevators to reach the Banquet levels. Our Banquet room had the French windows from where you could gaze into the beautiful Dubai Skyline, with the upcoming Ferris wheel that’s coming up near the Jumeirah beach.
As all the guests walked in, the waiters who held flutes of champagne and wine and coolers (much needed for the hot sultry evening) were delighted with the red-carpet treatment that made them feel like Royalty (and why not – you were in the ambitious hotel project of the Ruler). You are being treated like Royalty, never been denied anything and the service is par excellence!
